thanks wess for another grand recommend. just started pilgrim at tinker creek this morning. great stuff so far…
then i have the man for ya:
this guy is a stud. if you are in need for a worship leader check out his resume and such here: brad clark. seriously - get the word out - brad is a great leader and a great friend. so let’s find him a job, k?
just finished rob’s sex god - good stuff. for me the first 2 chapters make the book - any one else reading / finished the book?
this morning i am diving into anne lamott’s newest : grace (eventually). yummy.
so this morning at the 11o5 we began to scratch the surface of what it means to live in community. we are currently studying the life of david and today’s passage was david passing a blessing to solomon on his death bed. james (our pastor) spoke on the power of relationships within the body of christ - and how as the church we are not to live individual lives - but we are to live life in community. as he was finishing his sermon and we were moving towards a response time, he announced my new job title, director of 11o5 community, and how we were looking ahead to developing this and moving forward. so this is a great thing- but also a scary thing as well - i have no clue how to begin!! ha! but all that to say i am excited where this new position will lead me.
so after the service two ladies approached me and had some questions as to what my new title meant and what we were going to do as a community. then she asked this question that is still with me even now:
is it going to be real community?
man what a great question! as if there is a difference between real and fake community. she could see right through it. we all know there is. and i know what she is speaking of because she is currently reading the irresistible revolution - that book is a picture of real community. so know i am trying to figure out how to create the climate for this real community to happen - i know that is cant be forced - but i am excited to see what this common thread is that God is going to use to draw us into community as a congregation.
so i am encouraged and challenged in these days ahead - now that the cat is out of the bag - and everyone knows i am the ‘director of 11o5 community’ - i have to do something about it. ha! i long for those moments of real community. so hopefully God will grant me the grace to begin the process with this congregation at fpc….i will keep you posted…anyone have any ideas as to where to start?
lastly - we did an acoustic set this morning and it was awesome! man - i love the raw-ness of the acoustic set - such a breathe of fresh air! here are the songs from this morning:
all creatures (crowder’s version)
center (hall)
better is one day (redman)
=
portion (ashdown)
surrendered (proctor)
prayer of st francis (trinity vineyard atl)
so if you are a tea drinker or just recently gave up coffee ;-), might i suggest:
so amazing. if ya get a chance - give it a try!
i got this in an email from my mom this morning:
Hi there…….just back from a 5:30 start, working with the homeless
shelter. I picked up 5 of the Hispanic guys and drove them back to Garner
at 6:30…they look for work at 7:00. Then back to the church to clean up
and wash and dry sheets and towels. I do have one more laundry run to make
and then done. Whew, it is only 11:00 and I feel like my day is about over.
are you kidding me!!?!??! 5.30am, not pm. this is so amazing. so hopeful. thanks mom. you are a true inspiration.
this past sunday we had our good friend sarah kelly come and lead us at the 11o5. it was a great sunday! here are the songs:
