been feeling the sick ickiness around the ashdown house hold. no good at all i tell ya…been trying to rest and we are feeling a bit better.

this afternoon matt, allie, amanda, andrew, and i packed ourselves and some musical instruments into the matrix and headed west!! we were heading to lead worship for my good buddy Paul’s new church, called soma church community. it was sweet. and here is why…

1. it was so great to be back in sonoma county - so many great memories of that area
2. matt, andrew and i played some sweet music
and most importantly
3. homeless people worshiped with us tonight

you know how you always hear about churches being open to having anyone ‘come as they are’ to their service…i often wonder what would happen if that really happened. smelly, dirty, real people. well it happened tonight and it was so great. Soma meets right in the heart of downtown santa rosa - so there are tons of people around all the time - and because they meet at night their tradition has been to serve a meal and eat with each other after their gathering. so biblical right! love it! well i guess word got around that there was free food - so like 10 people that live on the streets came for the whole service and then got food after!! so amazing!! paul - i commend you - you are living the teachings of Jesus and it is inspiring!

it was so amazing to be in a church where there were people of all types around - not just the typical white upper class suburbanite. it was a beautiful picture of the kingdom of God and i cant wait to hear more stories of how Soma continues to be a part of mending the world and bringing God’s kingdom closer and closer in santa rosa.

so thanks paul and community - you people are a true light among the darkness.
