the power of presence

this morning i had the blessing of visiting a friend and fellow musician in the hospital. he had a mild heart attack on sunday morning and as we speak, he is having triple bypass surgery. his name is ralph and if you have a moment, offer up some love to our maker for him, ya?

anyways – his surgery was scheduled for 7am, so i headed over early to hang with him and his wife before. and i was struck by how just me being with him lifted his spirits and his wife’s. she was brought to tears that i came, and i was like – of course i would be there – i just cant stop thinking of how powerful it is to be connected to people. How the simple act of our presence with people can change them. God lives inside his people, and it an amazing thing to experience his love through others.

so on the drive home i couldnt help but relate this to God’s presence. His presence can change us in an instant. and it is interesting how we are so moved when he ’shows up’ in certain moments – but the reality is that he is ever-present, in every moment and it is we who ’show up’ and become aware of him.

God, in this day may you open my eyes – moment by moment – to notice your presence. may i be changed through these encounters today. Please guide the surgeons hands today as they operate on ralph, i pray peace over his wife jean and please heal his body in due time.
