sunday was great this morning. there was a lot of energy and everyone was just going for it together - people were singing loud and feeling the freedom of expression (which is big for the presbys)! one cool thing that happened was the band suggested that we change up the intro tune for the morning and it was so right on! at the beginning of sound check i was just playin the acoustic lick from crowders everything glorious -then the band joined in and we just jamed on it for a few. then we went to start rehearsal and the first tune was ‘happy day’ and i was like - i dont think i’m ready for that tune yet. and then melanie said - why not just do everything glorious? so we did and it rocked! i love moments like that. esp on sunday mornings. so thanks band - you guys are great. here are the tunes we did:

everything glorious (crowder)
=
holy is the lord (tomlin)
god of wonders (powell)
holy, holy, holy (traditional)
center (hall)

also - here is our normal band setup (for victor)
lead vox
1 female vox
rhythm acoustic guitar
1 electric guitar
cello
piano/keys
drums
bass

again. band - love you guys. thanks for gifts and your willingness to help lead worship. you are all truely lead worshippers.

tonight is our meeting for vision casting of our community groups (which i think we are calling life groups, thanks rockharbor!)  and i gotta say i am pretty pumped. 15 people have said they are coming and i wouldnt be surprised if we got a few more. the purpose of tonight is to share with them our heart for living the kingdom on a daily basis, in small communities within their neighborhoods - and how they can help lead/shepherd them. at the end of our meeting we are going to give these potential leaders a charge - and if they are interested in helping lead - have them come back in like 3 weeks to start training. should be good stuff - i will post an update on how it went this evening.

peace and wholeness to you all…

all we need (hall)

it was an ok sunday for me - we had a blast playing the new tim hughes tune - wishing i had an electric though - would’ve sounded worlds better. anyways - a great tune - check it out if you havent heard it yet.

also, had a great meeting with the crossroads (singles ministry) leadership team at fpc yesterday - they’ve asked me to speak at their retreat and i am pumped! they suggested that i talk about reconnecting with God, slowing down, etc…needless to say i am PUMPED to talk about this…should be a great time.

also, the new ducks logo is lame eric. also, the ducks are lame too.

man what a blast we had this morning! although it was an early start (6.30am) and a cold one (39) - it turned out ok. we had the our boys spur58 in to lead - and along with them, aaron asked me to lead and see if i could put some strings together as well. so it was blast! we had a violinist, cellist, me on acoustic and then the spur boys. it was so much fun!! seriously- we should do something like this once a year for sure- it was awesome to have the rock band with some strings - so great. here are the songs from yesterday:

come thou fount
=
when i survey
how great thou art
how great is our god
=

so also this sunday we passed out a card in our bulletin that asked a simple question:

“would you like to be involved in 11o5 small group leadership?”

honestly i didnt know what to expect - maybe like 5 or 10 at the most - well - we ended up getting 41 cards back!! and of those 41, 21 said they would be interested in helping lead!!! oh my!! this is so exciting! we just finished our planning meeting for 11o5 and it was a blast dreaming up how we can dive into this crazy thing called community. let me say i am really scared as well. i have no idea where this is going - but i am really excited as to what i could be! so this week we are calling people back and inviting them to a vision casting meeting in 2 weeks about where we see our community going and how we need them to be a part. fun but scary times none the less!! more to come…

is it going to be real community?

so this morning at the 11o5 we began to scratch the surface of what it means to live in community. we are currently studying the life of david and today’s passage was david passing a blessing to solomon on his death bed. james (our pastor) spoke on the power of relationships within the body of christ - and how as the church we are not to live individual lives - but we are to live life in community. as he was finishing his sermon and we were moving towards a response time, he announced my new job title, director of 11o5 community, and how we were looking ahead to developing this and moving forward. so this is a great thing- but also a scary thing as well - i have no clue how to begin!! ha! but all that to say i am excited where this new position will lead me.

so after the service two ladies approached me and had some questions as to what my new title meant and what we were going to do as a community. then she asked this question that is still with me even now:

is it going to be real community?

man what a great question! as if there is a difference between real and fake community. she could see right through it. we all know there is. and i know what she is speaking of because she is currently reading the irresistible revolution - that book is a picture of real community. so know i am trying to figure out how to create the climate for this real community to happen - i know that is cant be forced - but i am excited to see what this common thread is that God is going to use to draw us into community as a congregation.

so i am encouraged and challenged in these days ahead - now that the cat is out of the bag - and everyone knows i am the ‘director of 11o5 community’ - i have to do something about it. ha! i long for those moments of real community. so hopefully God will grant me the grace to begin the process with this congregation at fpc….i will keep you posted…anyone have any ideas as to where to start?

lastly - we did an acoustic set this morning and it was awesome! man - i love the raw-ness of the acoustic set - such a breathe of fresh air! here are the songs from this morning:

all creatures (crowder’s version)
center (hall)
better is one day (redman)
=
portion (ashdown)
surrendered (proctor)
prayer of st francis (trinity vineyard atl)
