Jesus for President
so i started reading this book this morning and it is wrecking me. and i’m only 40 pages in. Along with the fact that this is the most holistically designed book i have ever read - what lies inside is truly the heart of our God. anyone else reading this right now? if so i’d love to chat about it.here is what i am meditating on this morning:
(page 34-35) it’s hard to wrap your hands around a God who, when asked for a name, says “I AM”. But let’s not forget that this is the same king who would rather stoop to camping out in the wilderness with the refugee people than get shut up in palaces or megachurches or oval offices.
reading
back in the flow and loving it. finished the forgotten ways today and moved on to everything must change. thoughts and reflections from forgotten ways to come! anyone else reading? anything i should be reading?
the forgotten ways
wow. i am diving into this book today and really loving it. great stuff that is challenging me today…if you are in any way involved in church leadership you must read this book.
wrestling with the word this morning…
i am reading the scriptures today and some questions have come up on these passages i am reading. would love to hear some thoughts from you guys…
1) Luke 9:46-50. towards the end of this encounter with Jesus and the disciples John says that they saw someone driving out demons in Jesus’ name and that they tried to stop him because he ‘is not one of us’.
first, what does that mean? not one of us?….
and here is Jesus’ response - ‘do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you.’
so my question i guess is - who are these people John is talking about? are they other ‘followers of the way’ or not? and if not what does that mean?
2) Hebrews 4. i am reading through hebrews with my dogg hans right now and i just finished reading this chapter. (side note, i wish our bibles didnt have chapters, it is frustrating to me to figure out what pieces flow into the others and what some have titles and some dont - i dont like it that someone else decided that for me…) anyways - towards the end of chapter 4 there is a familiar verse about God’s word being like a double-edged sword (v12).
so here is what my observation was this morning - the scriptures say that God’s word ‘penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;’
my question is this - is there a difference between soul and spirit? and if so, what is it? how does it relate to joints and marrow? how do you divide it? and if so, what does that mean?
sorry to get all deep on ya this early - just letting you in my head this morning…
fredrick buechner

bye bye beach…hello chicago
so we are back in cary - hanging out at mom and pops after a wonderful time at ocean isle beach. seriously amazing. pics coming soon. so at the beach i was able to tear through 2 books - a thousand splendid suns and the children of hurin. a thousand splendid suns was amazing - if you have read kite runner than you know. the book was a great read - incredibly hard to read at times - but so so great. the tolkien novel was ok - somewhat predictable - and at times really didnt feel like him. but also a good story none-the-less. now i am on to my name is asher lev. man, i love fiction.
we are heading to visio dei tomorrow morning - cant wait. give some lovin to gore and jeff. i am pumped to see visio dei and its progress from the hungry days. should be awesome! then on tues we head out to chi-town for a little arts conference loving and hanging with fam. hoping to mix in a cubs game as well - we shall see.
shalom.
