an encouraging word

it is amazing the power of words. in these past few days my heart has been encouraged greatly and stoked to move forward in the midst of frustration from many different people in my life. and i am thankful for that.

i also started reading the one year bible this year and hope to finish. i have started many times in past seasons, it seems to be progressing well so far - please feel free to call me on it any time…

i am reading in exodus and matthew right now and i am struck by a couple of things:

1 - Gods communication with his people and their responses (positive and negative) :: i really like the book of exodus - story draws me in - i find myself and my life very intertwined with the exodus story
2 - Jesus’ communication to the religious leaders of the day :: wow - God is so obviously concerned with who we are and not what we do
3 - the Kingdom God :: it is here and now and to come and we get to be a part of this wonderful journey - and i am honored to take my place in the story
4 - keeping track of days in a specific manner (ie paying attention to the numbers) really helps me to reflect on what a year includes, and how to have rhythm within said year

i have been listening to a lot of radiohead lately and i really like it. i mean i really like it. their creativity and melodies move me. kid a in particular.
lastly i found this wonderful book called the way into tikkun olam at borders last week and almost passed out. yea i got it and cant wait to dive in…

grace and peace to you all,
j

well, its almost been a week since the bears had no offense in the super bowl. oh well - at least they made it there!

these past few weeks have been crazy here in h-town, esp at fpc. lots of changes in leadership at church - which is always hard - but i am excited to see where God is going to lead us.

wanna give a HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to my sister - Carolyn - love ya and wish we could party with you today.

i have been reading this book by richard rohr called Simplicity, it rocks. i am only in the first chapter - as i have been reading the kite runner mostly.

also - the song ‘Aint No Reason’ by brett dennen has been rocking my world lately. we shot a video to accompany the song for this sunday and i am pumped. do yourself a favor and go listen to it here.

that’s all for now…
