worship and brokenness

why is it that in a time of desperation and complete and utter brokenness that worship exists in a very full, tangible, and ‘real’ way?
tonight was an amazing time for me to connect with my maker in a time of worship during rehearsal - a connection was there that i haven’t experienced in a long time.
being a worship leader i must say i have been at a many different band rehearsals. and lets be honest - some are way more productive than others; some more engaging than others.
tonight i was in rhythm with my creator and i could feel his presence.
thank you, abba.
glory be to the father, to the son, and to the holy spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

thoughts i am wrestling with this morning…

so at the worshipcentral.org conference many things were said that encouraged me. put me back together as rob says. it was a time of refreshment but also awakening for me. here are some statements that i am wrestling with this morning, how they will begin to play out in my life:

- as worship leaders of our community, we become the scribes of God’s story in our midst :: songs mark the season of what God is uniquely doing for our congregation
- part of my role as a worship pastor is to lead people to places they would not naturally go themselves :: left to themselves they will probably begin going the wrong direction :: see exodus, people are always prone to idols
- where do we see that God wants our people to sacrifice? the OT people of God never worshiped empty handed - what is the sacrifice that is in me to bring?

worship leading

so this morning i had one of the best setups band wise for leading. we had mike haskew in to co-lead with me for the 11o5 and it was awesome. i also got to play electric this morning and that was double bonus.  there is something so right about having more than one song leader. the interplay between me, mike, and rebekah (our female vox) was so great. i believe it really models a community leadership style and i look forward to pursuing this in the future. i also had a great experience of this leading with walton a couple of weekend ago at arcade…

head on over to theworkofthepeople and watch this video with brian mclaren talking about worship, art, and propaganda. he brings up some great, great points. i dont know about you, but i feel the pressure he is talking about. i feel it a lot. and i love how he sets up the difference between propaganda and art - and how it relates to truth and honesty. may we be a people who are ok with being honest about the ugliness of life…
